Clean fuel standards.

The concept of a flexible performance standard can be used to decrease emissions from vehicles, buildings, and power plants. For example, applying a clean fuel standard to the transportation industry would speed up the use of low-carbon options like electric cars, advanced biofuels, electrofuels, and more. This type of standard would not favor one technology over another and regulated entities could trade credits, making it less expensive for consumers. California has already done this with their Low Carbon Fuel Standard. The United States has a similar policy called the Renewable Fuel Standard, but it needs to be improved and expanded to include other low-carbon solutions like electricity and electrofuels. This would make it an effective tool in fighting climate change. Europe also has a similar opportunity with their Renewable Energy Directive.
